Location:
Ralún, region 10.
Altitude: 1600m over sea level. Mount Kiñehuen with its
steep forested flanks and its snow dripped summit sits in the
surroundings of Ralún. Early in the morning we start
our way up by the bed of a rivulet opening us the way through
thick forests. Coigües, notros, canelos (a sacred tree
to Chile’s Indian people), avellanos (the Chilean hazelnut),
and giant farns are to be seen on our tour which offers us an
unforgettable outlook over emerald green Petrohué River
and the flushing green valley of Ralún. At about 1000
m above sea level we enter into alerce woods where millenarian
alerce trees impress with their long history.
