According
to UNORCH (Unión de Ornitólogos
de Chile) 474 species of birds have been registered for Chile,
amount which represents almost 5% of all species known worldwide.
325 of the species registered in Chile usually reproduce in the
country, some 70 species are considered to be stational guests -
weather in summer or winter time and about 60 species have been
observed only occasionally or accidentally in Chile.
In the list below you can find some of the birds you might observe
during our adventure or birdwatching activities. The following illustration
of the parts of a bird shall help you to understand better the descriptions
of the different birds. All illustrations and descriptions are extracted
from Martin de la Peña's Birds of Southern South America
and Antarctica, published
by Harper
Collins Publishers (ISBN0002200775). Its an excellent and useful
guide for birdwatching in South America.
