Our climb
starts at 5:00am in the morning with the pick-up at your accommodation
in Puerto Varas to drive then to Ensenada. From here we approach
to the starting point at the foothills of Calbuco where we
leave our car and start our ascent of about 7 to 8 hours.
We hike through thick native forests where trees like Mañío,
Coigüe,
Tepa and Tineo
prevail and difficult to penetrate Quila
bamboos and Arrayán
and Maqui bushes
as well as lots of creeping plants and farns make it impossible
to diverge from the established path. A moraine of lava sands
opens our path until the tree limit where our way continues
through unforgettable mountain landscapes. Before arriving
at the snow limit at about 1600 m above sea level you can
see an impressing waterfall. The overwhelming sights, the
crater and the summit are the highlights of this tour.
