After
a short introduction to the area’s geology and botanic
we start our horse ride crossing Hueño River towards
Calbuco Volcano. Here we penetrate into a small forest to
go on upstream along the riverside. We come to know Nalca
forests (a plant with its leafs similar to those of rhubarbs
– just much bigger) the sticks of which are used for
salads and its giant leafs for Curantos a traditional seafood
meal. While we cross a pine plantation the soil becomes a
black tone because of the growing content of volcanic dust
which has been accumulated in this area when the Calbuco erupted
in 1961 pouring a stream of lava and burning down parts of
the forest.
This ride offers beautiful vistas to Osorno Volcano and you
are encouraged to swim in Hueñu-Hueñu River
and you will learn much about native vegetation and local
geology etc.
