Rainy Summer

E-mail Print PDF
This summer until now is by far the rainiest summer since many years. This means for our guests that they need for many activities a very flexible time schedule in order to pick out the days with the best weather forecast for outdoor activities. Most recommendable are activities in our moderate rain forest as it's tight roof of leafs protects quiet good against downpooring rain and offers us much about native flora to explore.

A wonderful summer day at Cayetue Lake - Chile
Watch Film of this Trip

In Ralún at about 90 km from Puerto Varas we enter Cayetúe Valley where we start our trek at about 500 m above sea level with a wonderful lookout over Reloncaví Fjord. Then, we pass during a easy trek through native forests of Coigües, Mañios, Ulmos, Tepas, giant farns and climbing plants while wonderful fuchsias give a colour contrast to the dark green forest. After an easy walk of about two hours we get to the meadows around Cayutúe Lake where we have a break at the campfire, swim in the lake's clear waters, eat something or just enjoy the beautiful outlook on thickly forested hills and volcano Puntiagudo behind the deep blue lake. The only bad thing about this trek is that, after a sunny day at the lagoon you will not want to get back to your accomodation...

Watch Film of this Trip

Location: Ralún, region 10. Altitude: 1600m over sea level. Mount Kiñehuen with its steep forested flanks and its snow dripped summit sits in the surroundings of Ralún. Early in the morning we start our way up by the bed of a rivulet opening us the way through thick forests. Coigües, notros, canelos (a sacred tree to Chile’s Indian people), avellanos (the Chilean hazelnut), and giant farns are to be seen on our tour which offers us an unforgettable outlook over emerald green Petrohué River and the flushing green valley of Ralún. At about 1000 m above seal level we enter into alerce woods where millenarian alerce trees impress with their long history.

Family Boat Trip on Petrohue River
Watch of this Trip

The lower section of the Petrohué is a perfect trip for family groups. This section is slower paced and affords plenty of opportunities for relaxing, swimming and fishing (fishing license is required). We stop at lonely beaches to have breakfast and lunch, hike or bird watching. You will also come to know much about the local flora enjoying breathtaking landscapes passing by. Until reaching our take-out in Ralún we pass a beautiful day in nature accessible even for people who are not likely or in means to exhaust themselves.
